ZURICH – July 17, 2013 – Greenpeace’s Arctic Defender for iOS, the breakthrough endless runner co-created by Must Mobile and the Mobilisation Lab, has helped Greenpeace garner 3 million signatures to save the Arctic – easily surpassing the 1 million-signature goal established in 2012. To raise the stakes even higher, Arctic Defender has now been fully revamped and christened Arctic Defender 2013. The goal for the new petition? 5 million signatures.

Once a nod to a famous game character with a penchant for ancient tombs, Diana Green is now much closer in design to real Greenpeace volunteers. She is intelligent, athletic, brave – and relentless in her quest to find her father while protecting the Arctic from industrial fishing and undue oil and natural gas exploration. The redesign sends a clear message to potential volunteers worldwide and firmly connects Arctic Defender with the real world.

Arctic Defender 2013 also includes deeper narrative, improved animations, and brand new, discrete levels such as travelling in a Zodiac boat and scaling an arctic rig.

Arctic Defender has changed the way Greenpeace does outreach,” says Dan Schaefler, project manager and Greenpeace Switzerland team leader for fundraising and innovation. “A few minutes into the game, players are asked to join our movement. This is our goal, to make it easy for players to take that first step. If we’re successful, players may decide to contact us directly, become a donor, or even take action with Greenpeace.”

“We are incredibly proud of our work with Greenpeace,” says Juan Francisco Di Nucci, founder, Must Mobile. “Games like Arctic Defender will serve as a template for future campaigns – creating an entirely new channel for activism and fundraising.”
