MidBoss Games

SAN FRANCISCO, California, November 13, 2013 - The team behind the GaymerX convention announced the formation of MidBoss Games today with the launch of a Kickstarter campaign to fund Read Only Memories, a new cyberpunk adventure game that features queer characters in prominent roles.

Read Only Memories is a single-player adventure game that explores Neo-San Francisco in 2064. Players will explore Neo-SF to uncover its mysteries and dive deep into the dark heart of the city. As new areas are unlocked the player encounters new characters to interact with, partner with, or fight against. The game design is mainly inspired by cyberpunk themes of the 80’s, and adventure games of the 90’s such as Sam & Max, Maniac Mansion, Snatcher, and The Secret of Monkey Island.

“Despite video games being the largest segment of the entertainment industry, queer characters do not receive adequate representation in storylines,” quoted John James, Lead Designer of MidBoss Games. “Rather than waiting for big publishers, we decided to take action and do something about it.”

The team behind MidBoss Games founded the GaymerX convention, a safe space for queer gamers, which was successfully funded through Kickstarter in September 2012. GaymerX had their first convention in August 2013, and GaymerX2 is scheduled for July 2014. A limited number of GaymerX2 tickets are available as Read Only Memories Kickstarter rewards. Other rewards include game downloads, early access, and an atypical opportunity to be escorted through the grittiest parts of San Francisco by members of the game development team.

Read Only Memories has set a Kickstarter funding goal of $62,064 to complete its development and testing for the Mac, PC, iOS, Android and Ouya systems. The value of each pledge will be doubled through matching funds provided by Ouya’s Free The Games Fund, up to the first $62,064. Additional stretch goals will enable the expansion of the game to more platforms, including Linux, Steam, PS4, Xbox One, PS Vita and WiiU, and include digital downloads of the soundtrack and art book. The fundraising campaign will run through December 12, 2013.
