March 24 th 2014: GamesAid’s patron, Imran Yusuf, has pulled together a top comic line-up for this year's Stand Up for GamesAid.

Imran Yusuf (Best Newcomer nominee at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2010), will host the entire night. The bill he's pulled together showcases a great array of comedic talent and some of the country's leading stand up acts.

The full line up is confirmed as (see information below):

Paul Tonkinson

Holly Walsh

Paul Thorne

Jarred Christmas

Susan Calman

Kev Orkian

There will also be a very special guest performance from Eurogamer veteran, industry legend and aspiring stand up comedian, Ellie Gibson.

All money raised will go direct to GamesAid, which supports charities for disabled and disadvantaged young people and children in the UK, so it’s comedy to spilt your sides and soothe your social conscience to boot.

Tickets are currently on sale for the gig via the Comedy Store's website at £12.50.

MC - Imran Yusuf

Some of you might recognise our MC for Stand Up for GamesAid, Imran Yusuf, he once worked in the UK games industry many moons ago for the likes of Midway Games, Eidos, SEGA Europe and Kuju London. After a stint bringing us the likes of Red Card Soccer (PS2), Yakuza (PS2), and Battalion Wars 2 (Wii), Imran left the development studios for the land of show business and was nominated Best Newcomer at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2010 and also made his UK debut TV appearance on Michael McIntyre's Comedy Roadshow with his famous routine about Xbox Live and Call of Duty. You can take the gamer out of games, but you can't take the game out of the gamer, and so Imran is proud to host Stand Up For GamesAid for the UK games industry at the home of British Stand Up Comedy, the world famous Comedy Store!

The Acts

Paul Tonkinson

Yorkshireman, occasional marathon runner, and sometime radio and TV presenter Paul Tonkinson is also an established and popular stand up star. A former Time Out ‘Comedian of the Year’, with deadpan northern charm and infectious energy, Paul leads audiences on a crash course in the north-south divide, the curious differences between male and female logic, and the (sometimes real) characters that have populated his life. A sought after headliner across the Uk and international circuit, Paul is also in great demand as a corporate entertainer and awards host. TV wise, he recently performed a storming set on Michael Mcintyre’s Comedy Roadshow, and has also performed on The Comedy Store and The World Stands-Up for Comedy Central. He was recently a contestant on Ch 4's hit show Celebrity Come Dine With Me, scooping first place and winning the cash prize for his chosen charity. He's also cropped up on various panel and list shows (covering everything from the 100 Greatest Cartoons to the Greatest World Cup Moments), and was the inaugural breakfast show presenter on Xfm Manchester, before moving to the London sister station.

Ellie Gibson

Although best known within the games industry for her work at Eurogamer, where she edits long-term investigations and also dabbles in reviews and features usually involving animals, fighting or having it off, Ellie also recently began performing stand-up. Last year she was a semi-finalist in national competition So You Think You’re Funny? and performed in a sell-out show at the Lewisham Fringe. She also co-hosts number one parenting podcast Scummy Mummies and makes her Comedy Store debut at this event.

Jarred Christmas

Energetic and surreal, Jarred Christmas is a unique comic talent with a character all of his own. His delivery is  high-energy and brimming with a self-belief that makes his bizarre thoughts and observations completely acceptable to the listener.  Jarred's material is drawn from an imagination let loose, and his wild style mixes gags with storytelling, pulling the audience into his surreal world.  His success with improvisation and his ability to interact with an audience make him the perfect stand-up, compere or presenter.

Holly Walsh

An acclaimed stand-up and writer, Holly Walsh, is an established talent in both fields. In 2012 her sitcom, Dead Boss, co-written with Sharon Horgan aired on BBC3 and has since been commissioned for a pilot episode by Fox Network for the US. Her stand-up credentials were established with her 2008 Best Newcomer at the Chortle Awards and confirmed with an Edinburgh Comedy Award nomination three years later for her debut Fringe show, Hollycopter. The show also enjoyed a sell-out run at the Soho Theatre in 2012.

Holly has featured on many of the top TV comedy shows including, 8 Out of 10 Cats, Never Mind the Buzzcocks, Would I Lie To You? and Mock The Week, as well as hosting the Channel 4 series, TNT, alongside Jack Whitehall. On top of this she is often heard on radio and has appeared on shows such asThe Unbelievable Truth, The Now Show, and Charlie Brooker’s So Wrong It’s Right for Radio 4. As well as these guest appearances, Holly is much in demand as writer for both TV and Radio and has written widely for both.

Paul Thorne

Paul Thorne is one of Britain’s most established and sought-after stand-ups. As well as performing at all of the UK’s major comedy venues and festivals he can be seen weekly at London’s Comedy Store as a member of The Cutting Edge team of comedians who perform topical material based on the week’s news.

In addition to performing all over Europe Paul has taken his unique brand of comedy as far afield as Hong Kong, Thailand, Canada, Singapore, China and Japan and has toured extensively with Jack Dee, Lee Hurst and Rory Bremner.

Just in his early twenties,  Ola has already appeared on ITV4and MTV Base and writes for BBCR4′s The Now Show, The News Quiz and Nathan Caton’s Can’t Tell Me Nothing. He performs all over the UK and as as far afield as the US and Dubai. Young, driven and hugely talented, Ola is a stand-up comedian, writer and actor with natural originality and enviable stage presence.

Finalist in the FHM Search for A Stand Up Hero, broadcast on ITV4,Ola is renowned for his intelligent, edgy humour. As an anchor member of The Jason Lewis Experience team, as both writer and actor, Ola has appeared on MTV Base and on DVD.

Ola’s first solo 1-man special, “21”, was a huge hit with audiences and his stage work includes The Lion and the Jewel by Nobel prize winner, Wole Soyinka.

Kev Orkian

Kev Orkian is one of the UK's most talented, up-and-coming comedians. A highly skilled pianist, singer and actor, he has been dubbed one of the world's finest comedy pianists. Kev started playing the piano at four years old. From the age of 23 he toured as a concert pianist with a variety of orchestras and appeared at many prestigious venues including the Sydney Opera House. Kev made his West End debut in 96 starring in Fame and between 96 and 04 had roles in Me & My Girl, Grease, Buddy Holly, Happy Days and Boogie Nights.

Not wanting to tender his relationship with the piano, Kev Orkian spent his spare time writing and developing comedy routines that incorporated music but was never fully aware he could turn this into a full act until 2004. Kev decided not to perform in musicals for a few years so he could concentrate on building his stand up career, which ultimately led to combining the piano and comedy together.

Since then Kev’s career as a stand-up comedian has gone from strength to strength. Kev now spends a large proportion of the year touring with his one-man show, which features an energetic mix of hilarious stand-up comedy and spectacular recitals on the piano, many of which have been composed by Kev himself.  In August 2010 Kev made his first appearance at the Edinburgh Fringe.

Susan Calman

Edinburgh Fringe favourite Susan has her own Radio 4 series ‘Calman is Convicted’ and is a panel regular on the News Quiz and the Now Show. She has also made winning guest appearances on TV shows Have I Got News For You and Q.I. Susan will be asking lots of questions. Questions like where is she, what is she doing with her life, and can she put cat wrangler as her occupation on a mortgage application? Susan thinks about a lot of things. Sometimes she says them out loud, often just to her cats, bus sometimes to other people as well. Come and listen as Susan says all the right funny words, just not necessarily in the right order.
