My name's Jonathan and I'm writing to tell you about Variable State, a new game studio founded by me and my good friend Terry Kenny. We're both long-time game developers who met through DeepMind Technologies, which we left in January 2014.

Why did we decide to start Variable State?

We're both jealous admirers of the indie game movement. Our personal heroes are the Molleindustrias, Cardboard Computers and Blendo Games of this world.

We're inspired by their example and keen to make a mark of our own.

Our intent is to write software, tell stories and be [provocative / compassionate / nostalgic / pseudo-competent / surprising / unsettling / Hideo Kojima / meme-proof / validated by the tacit approval of our peers / tired / steadfast / unavoidably anxious] doing so.

We're full steam ahead with the development of our first secret project. We look forward to telling you all about it very soon!

Thank you for your time.

Jonathan Burroughs

Both Jonathan and Terry are available to talk more about Variable State on request.
