Bethlehem, P.A. – February 29, 2016 – ProjectMQ, a social media app for indie gamers that has garnered thousands of social media followers and users in more than 40 countries, beat out two other finalist companies and more than 70 entrants to win the  inaugural Hatch House Open business model contest. The competition, which was run by Bethlehem’s live/work startup incubator, Hatch House, awarded ProjectMQ and the competition’s runners up more than $8,000 in prize money, networking and consulting resources.

“Winning the Hatch House Open is a major milestone for us, especially in an event with tech-savvy judges and tough competition. The feedback we received from the Hatch House team has been invaluable,” said Marcus Howard, who, along with his brother, Malcolm Howard, founded ProjectMQ. “We’ve been involved with startup communities in Savannah, Georgia and Boca Raton, Florida, and Bethlehem is, by far, the most innovative and supportive.”

Other finalists in the competition included Soltech Solutions, a Bethlehem-based company aiming to develop and provide the highest standards of  renewable energy and energy efficient products; and Parking Bee, an app developed for people to make money renting out their parking spaces in cities across the country. All three companies pitched in front of a panel of judges representing local businesses and investors, with ProjectMQ fully laying out a business model that allows users to pay a monthly fee to remove ads and unlock premium content.

“Now that we’ve won the Hatch House Open, we’re shifting our focus back to scaling ProjectMQ globally with our viral growth hacking strategies,” said Howard. “We’ll invest the funds to produce quality marketing assets, and improve our site performance in preparation for our upcoming alpha release this Spring.”

All finalists in the competition received an open invitation to move their business into Hatch House’s flagship location in Bethlehem this summer, where they can continue to have access to the company’s network of mentors, investors, and fellow entrepreneurs growing their seed-stage startups.
