Aug. 18, 2017 - You may often hear that being in virtual reality is a lonely experience. That couldn’t be farther from the truth, especially when you add more people into the mix. Or what if it involves being a cat on board of a sushi restaurant spaceship, cruising the galaxy while you eat to your heart’s content? This is the premise of Ganbatte ( ganbattegame.com), Mimicry’s new VR game, currently in development.

In Ganbatte, VR gamers will experience a fast-paced galactic sushi eating game for up to 4 players. Ganbatte aims to combine the best of shared competitive arcade game experiences, with the sense of being present in a unique and fun space.

As players will take the role of cats, Ganbatte will offer opportunities to customize characters and, besides voice-chat, offer non-verbal communication through facial expressions. “Ganbatte is a lot about expression and communication. We want to give players the tools to enhance the social experience of the game,” says Pedro Oliveira, artist at Mimicry.

“We are creating a game that is both fast-paced and meant to be played seated. This results in comfort that doesn’t compromise interaction,” says Thomas Papa, founder of Mimicry.

This VR-only game is currently being developed for Steam VR, supporting both HTC Vive and Oculus Rift.

Ganbatte is coming up to an early access release on Steam, in Q4 2017. You can follow Ganbatte’s development on its official devblog at ganbattegame.com/blog.

About Mimicry

Mimicry ( mimicrygames.com) is an independent game, VR and software development studio with its roots in the Netherlands and Portugal.

Mimicry was founded in 2012, with the goal of creating artistically motivated videogames. After the Oculus Rift Kickstarter, it soon expanded into exploring the potential of virtual reality experiences and games.

The first title of the studio, the short interactive drama “Leaving”, was released on iPad in 2013. After this first commercial release, Mimicry has been involved in multiple, smaller projects.
