September 20, 2017

JAKARTA, INDONESIA, September 20, 2017 - Forged of Blood, the self-touted fantasy X-Com game being developed by the independent studio Critical Forge, is making its way to the Tokyo Game Show this week. Having recently won PopCon Asia’s Most Anticipated Game of the Year Award (Indonesia’s largest pop-culture event) Forged of Blood has been steadily gaining recognition for the complex but rewarding mechanics they are showing. Their hard work and success at the event has garnered the team an invite by Indonesia’s Agency for Creative Economy, and they have been chosen as one of the six local studios to represent Indonesia in the ARCHIPELAGEEK booth.

On the subject of going to the event, Igor Tanzil, Creative Director at the studio says: “Events like these are huge for a tiny studio like us - both for team morale and public exposure. This is something we’ve put so much of ourselves into, and to have it be recognized by our own country’s “Agency for Creative Economy” has been such a great honor. I honestly cannot wait to have more people get their hands on this game.”

Critical Forge will be showcasing a completely updated build of Forged of Blood at the highly anticipated event. All nine weapon classes, two spellcasting archetypes, and updated AI have been implemented since the game’s last showing and will be available to the press and public at the event. As with previous public showings of the game, the team will be listening to player and media feedback regarding the game, but the pressure is definitely on for Tokyo Game Show in particular.

Stoking the fires of excitement within the studio, Milo Winn, Lead Game Designer at the studio quipped: “I’m really looking forward to seeing how our game holds up at the home of turn-based tactical RPGS.”

Also released is a new trailer showing all three featured gameplay layers of the game along with an update video that show’s the team’s hard fought progress in creating their strategic layer.

Forged of Blood Game Details:

Forged of Blood is a fantasy turn-based tactical RPG that focuses on creating a deep tactical gameplay experience centered around meaningful choice in a morally ambiguous world. With this game, we are merging a deep turn-based tactical game with an elaborate RPG experience that takes players on a journey to reclaim a lost kingdom.

Key Features:

  • Tactical Fantasy: Take to the field with sword and shield or cast powerful spells in deep turn-based tactical combat against monsters and men.
  • Classless Warfare: With 9 unique weapon classes and a vast magic system, Forged of Blood lets you build your characters the way you want - without being constrained by the typical tank/DPS/healer roles.
  • Science in Magic: Explore the freedom and mysteries of one of the most complex and unique magic systems ever attempted in video games. With 42 Effects, 12 Effect Modifiers, and 12 Global Modifiers to choose from, the possibilities for spell crafting are vast.
  • Kingdom at War: Command up to three parties of buildable characters on the strategic layer in your fight to reclaim the empire you lost.
  • Meaningful Choice: Your choices matter. From character building to your choices in the game narrative, your decisions will reverberate across the Strategic and Tactical layers of the game.
  • Your ends; your means: In a world of grays and unique perspectives, it is up to you to decide what is “right” and “wrong” for the future of Attiras. Forged of Blood will introduce a new Tri-Axis Personality Plot (TAPP) system in lieu of the traditional Good vs. Evil scale common in most RPG settings.

Current Schedule:

  • Pre-production: February 2016 – July 2016
  • Production: July 2016 – October 2017
  • Final-production: October 2017 – Mid 2018

About Critical Forge:

Founded in early 2016, Critical Forge is a young indie studio with an old gaming soul. Based out of Jakarta, the small team has spent the last year working to create new worlds and multilayered experiences that will delight old-school gamers around the world.

Our debut game: Forged of Blood, is the sort of powerfully complex and deeply tactical game many of us in the studio have grown up playing. Forged of Blood is our shot at bridging old-school mechanics with the modern sensibilities of contemporary game design and deliver the fantasy tactical RPG experience many of us have been wanting.
