Experimental free multiplayer browser game
Available now, darkfore.st is a free MMO space colonisation strategy game played from a command-line like interface in your browser.
You take control of a newly space-faring civilisation, looking to expand beyond their solar system, although with a slight limitation: the light speed barrier. All messages, all ships, all commands, yes everything has to abide gods cruel punishment upon us all that we call the laws of physics.
But waiting a few minutes for your messages to reach their recipients is going to be the least of your trouble. An unbreakable speed limit transforms the universe into a terrifyingly dark and inscrutable forest, with no telling whether the next predator is already on its way to you.
Why would someone prey on you? Well, while the universe might try it's hardest to impress you with it's unfathomable size and infinite wonder, there's still only so much of it to go around. With space age civilisations popping up everywhere you better beware greedy and possibly relatively all-mighty hands wiping your civilisation of the universes table like the cosmic speck of dust that it is.
Is cooperation possible in such a universe? Is it damned to just be an endless cycle of violence and betrayal? I have no clue, but intend to find out. With darkfore.st.
