Blue Goji’s Furiends Augmented Reality Mobile Game Team to Celebrate U.S. Launch by Hosting Event

with Austin Pets Alive! and Others on Saturday, Jan. 12, in Austin; Four-legged Friends Welcome!

AUSTIN, Texas (Dec. 21, 2018) – The new Furiends augmented reality (AR) mobile game from Austin-based Blue Goji will be available in early January for users of newer versions of iOS devices to download and play for free. To celebrate the launch of this new game for players in the United States, Blue Goji’s Furiends team will host a special event on Saturday, Jan. 12, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Cosmic Coffee + Beer Garden in Austin. Four-legged friends on leashes are welcome to attend this event, which will benefit Blue Goji’s designated charity: Austin Pets Alive!.

Please go to for more information on this event.

Blue Goji is committed to donating a portion of the proceeds of optional in-app Furiends purchases to Austin Pets Alive!. At the Jan. 12 launch event, APA! will be on-site with adoptable dogs and educational resources. In addition, the venue Cosmic Coffee + Beer Garden will offer two specialty drinks, of which a portion of sales will benefit APA!. For furry friends, Barkin’ Creek Dog Kitchen & Bath will be sampling and selling its homemade dog treats, as well as wintery dog accessories. To promote the game, Furiends will be available to download with an extra loot box of goodies accessible upon sign-in. At the event, Blue Goji’s Furiends team will have a free, doggie photo booth for pets of all sizes. Attendees also will have the opportunity to enter giveaways that will include Cosmic Coffee + Beer Garden gift cards, Barkin’ Creek dog treats, and exclusive Furiends merch for people and pets!

About Furiends

A health and wellness company that features virtual reality (VR) and AR products and games, Blue Goji recently launched an early version of Furiends in Canada and Australia for AR-capable Apple devices (iPhone 6S and newer) running at least iOS11. The U.S. version will be available in early January before the Jan. 12 launch event. Blue Goji plans to introduce a version of Furiends to support Android devices later in 2019. The game will always be free to download and play, with the option of in-app purchases.

The main objective of Furiends is to be a good dog parent to a virtual dog, which includes playing, walking, feeding, and of course, taking as many photos as possible. These actions will be rewarded with “Stars.”  Virtual Furiends can come along on any adventure and are always ready to have their picture taken. Players are encouraged to dress up their pets in clothing and accessories to make their photos even more fun. Competitions will be held through Furiends’ Instagram, where the team will select a few favorite photos each month and reward with various prizes.

In addition to photos, another key component of Furiends is the step-tracking feature: to take care of their virtual pet, players need to be physically active. The game can read the user’s step count from his or her device and convert those steps into “Fur-coins.” Players are given step goals to achieve or exceed, so that they are consistently motivated to stay active. Stars and Fur-coins can be spent on items for the dog, including: treats, collars, leashes, toys, and featured seasonal items. In-app purchase options are currency bundles of Stars and/or Fur-coins.
