London, February 14th 2019 - Today the YouTube channel AI and Games announced 'The Making of Sea of Thieves', releasing on YouTube on March 6th.  Our team was invited to the offices of Rare Ltd in Twycross to get a behind-the-scenes look into how Sea of Thieves is made.  Across four videos complete with interviews with several members of Sea of Thieves' gameplay team, we explore the myriad of AI systems used to bring this pirate adventure to both PC and Xbox One.

The series will explore the AI of Sea of Thieves across four parts:

Part 1: Building a Pirate's Paradise - Exploring Sea of Thieves earliest beginnings, the myriad of AI-driven systems in the game and the challenges of keeping it all from falling apart.

Part 2: Scourge of the Seas - The skeletons that haunt the islands of the Sea of Thieves and the sharks that prey on unsuspecting players.

Part 3: Megan, Karen and Skevin? - Taking a look at the three big boss enemies of Sea of Thieves: the megaladon, the kraken and the haunted skeleton galleons.

Part 4: Conquering Crunch - The cultural shift and automation systems built throughout Sea of Thieves development that enabled AI and other gameplay systems to be tested more thoroughly and minimised crunch throughout the studio.

This series is released in association with the UKIE's '30 Years of Play' programme; celebrating the talent and titles of the UK's games industry.
