Time flies! we can remember so clearly when we were launching Pixel Ripped 1989, like it was yesterday. It's been one whole year since then, short time especially when you compare it with the long development process the game went through. We want to share the joy and know more about you, our community, in an AMA session we will be having today, 31st of July, between 10 AM and 2 PM (Pacific Time / Brazil Time-4). The whole Pixel Ripped team will be there, and there will also be some trivia questions with rewards for the fastest ones in answering them!

Pixel Ripped 1989 selected to be showcased at SIGGRAPH 2019!

Pixel Ripped 1989 has been selected to be showcased at SIGGRAPH 2019, happening these days in Los Angeles. The reception so far has been astounding to say the least! We are so honored to be showing Pixel Ripped 1989 to a brand new audience. The game has been selected as part of the Virtual, Augmented and Mixed Reality Program, can be found at the Arcade area in the Immersive Pavilion.

Pixel Ripped 1989 receives New Face Award at Japan Media Arts Festival

Pixel Ripped 1989 is still winning awards and recognition at some of the most renowned interactive arts Festivals in the World. Recently the game got awarded with the New Face Award at the 22nd Edition of the Japan Media Arts Festival. Ana, along with part of the team attended the Festival in Tokyo, which was held in the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation (Miraikan), where Pixel Ripped 1989 was showcased from 1 to 16 of June.

This is what the Festival's curators wrote (source) about our game:

In the history of video games, there comes from time to time a meta title that reexamines the very state of games in a self-critical way: by including a retro take on generations past while remaining an expression of fresh new media. This indie game, which takes the player into 1989, has a catchy way of embodying that monumentality in today’s VR era. Its superb eye for design results in a skillful medley of a game-within-a-game that pays homage to famous Japanese titles of yore and the phenomenon of “reality” as seen from the player’s perspective. The developer’s intense fourth-wall-breaking presentation—in full costume!—stood out as well.


Pixel Ripped 1989 garnered four nominations at BIG Festival 2019, including Best Game, Most Innovative Game, Best Brazilian Game and Best VR Game of 2018, of which we won the Most Innovative award! This is a really important achievement for us, as BIG is the third most important Indie Game Festival in the World.
