Lunenburg, Nova Scotia (13th November 2019) : HB Studios, the largest video game developer in Atlantic Canada, today announced that it has appointed James Seaboyer as Chief Executive Officer effective 15th November 2019. James replaces Alan Bunker, who has stepped down from the role he has held since 2015.

Since joining the company in 2007, James has moved steadily through the ranks and most recently held the position of Executive Producer, overseeing all of HB’s game development teams across both the Lunenburg HQ and Halifax studio. He has credits for 18 games across multiple platforms and has particular expertise in managing external projects commissioned by the largest publishers in the industry.

“Having been born here in Nova Scotia, I am honored to have been rewarded with the position of CEO at HB Studios,” says Seaboyer.  “I have grown with this company and I am very confident in the staff and management we have in place so that we can continue to grow our studios and make great quality games.”

“I have known James for a long time, even prior to recruiting him on the soccer field in 2007, and know that he is the right person for the CEO role at the right time,” said founder and majority shareholder, Jeremy Wellard, who retired from HB Studios in early 2015. “James is a proven leader with extensive experience in video game development, an excellent understanding of the business and skilled at maintaining strong relationships with the company’s valuable publishers and external partners. He is an extraordinary fit for this role and I am excited about what the future holds for HB under the new leadership. I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank Alan for all his amazing work in the role since I retired and I wish him luck in whatever he chooses to do next.”

Additionally, HB Studios is bolstering its technology leadership. Dave McFarland, HB’s Technical Director, will transition to Chief Technology Officer, joining the executive team alongside James Seaboyer and the existing Chief Financial Officer, Craig Heffler. Dave has been an inspiration within the HB software engineering ranks since joining in January 2004 and has heavily influenced every game that the company has developed in the subsequent 15 years.
