STOCKHOLM October 21, 2020 Resolution Games today launched a major update to its hit multiplayer VR game, Acron: Attack of the Squirrels!. The world’s first cross-platform VR game at this scale now offers a new Halloween level and updated gameplay features that will allow for increased competition and nuttin’ but spooky fun. In addition to the new level, called Sulky Swamp, the update also introduces 1v1 gameplay, allowing the tree to do battle against a single squirrel, with the ability to add in bots for an extra challenge.

Originally released in 2019, Acron: Attack of the Squirrels! positions one player as a tree in VR  (supported by Oculus headsets [Quest, Quest 2, Rift], HTC headsets [Vive, Cosmos], Valve Index and Windows Mixed Reality) against up to eight frenemies who play as mischievous squirrels on iOS and Android devices. The player in VR is the sole protector of the golden acorns, and must use the hand controllers to grab and hurl chunks of wood, boulders, and sticky sap to keep the squirrels at bay, while the pesky squirrel(s) will do whatever it takes to nab their golden prize.

Along with the addition of 1v1 mode and the Sulky Swamp level, today’s updates also make the spooky set of Haunting Horrors player skins free, as well as a number of game improvements including: iPad support, a streamlined multiplayer lobby experience, the ability to select your preferred level, and tree-taunting.

“We knew that Acorn: Attack of the Squirrels! presented a unique opportunity to bring local multiplayer to VR, but we had no idea what a hit it would become and how many people would experience Acron as their introduction to virtual reality,” said Tommy Palm, CEO of Resolution Games. “While Acron is great to experience locally, the cross-platform functionality has made this the perfect game to connect with friends both near and far over the last few months. Now with the launch of the Quest 2, we’re excited to give players a special Halloween treat in the form of new content and updated gameplay mechanics to try out with their friends and family over the upcoming holiday seasons.”

Acron: Attack of the Squirrels! is available for purchase for $19.99. Its companion app for multiplayer squirrel friends is available as a free download for iOS or Android devices. You can also follow the Acron: Attack of the Squirrels! Facebook page as well as the game’s Discord page for future updates and community insights.
