Deanna Van Buren is an architect and the founder of FOURM design studio. She is currently developing two new markets in architecture. Given the increasing number of people who “see” the built environment digitally, she believes that designing environments for the electronic gaming industry can have an impact on the public’s appreciation of good design and on their demand for better quality in their own. In the physical realm Deanna’s is a thought leader applying design to peacemaking and restorative justice, a radical transformation of justice architecture. Recent work in her practice includes architecture design for videogame The Witness, the Syracuse Peacemaking Center in New York, the first of its kind in the United States and is a recent awardee of the Rauschenberg Artist as Activist grant to develop a prototype mobile resource village. Deanna received her BS in Architecture from the University of Virginia, an M. Arch from Columbia University and has recently completed The Loeb Fellowship at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design.
