When playing Assassin's Creed Syndicate after a long break from it, I decided to talk about the Rope Launcher as a tool, how it's presented in marketing vs how it's presented in-game, and just why it was so underwhelming despite its impressive utility.

I contrast The Phantom Pain's game world, whose every interaction is filled with meaning, with the game worlds of recent Assassin's Creed games, which are full of things that lack purpose - and provide a suggestion for AC's future.

Bloodborne is a game which excels at using enemy designs and behavior to boost the consistency of its world. Assassin's Creed Syndicate, on the other hand, is one which struggles to achieve similar things. This short post examines both.
