Unity has lifted the lid on its Vision Virtual and Augmented Reality Summit, a new "developer driven" event that will focus on exploring the opportunities, challenges, and potential presented by emerging VR and AR technology.

The first conference will will take place at the Loews Hotel in Hollywood from February 10-11, 2016, and will see the likes of Oculus, Qualcomm, Sony, and Valve come together to demonstrate the latest developments in VR and AR tech.

"VR and AR promise to change the way we interact with technology and entertainment,”  said John Riccitiello, CEO of Unity Technologies.

“Vision Summit will bring the best minds together to discuss how the great potential in these technologies can be realized."

As well as developer demonstrations, Vision Summit will also feature talks and panels covering a wide range of topics, including conceptual and practical design, technology deep dives, and the challenges of creating full immersion through presence.

As VR and AR worlds continue to capture our imagination, it's unsurprising to see huge industry names rally around the technology.

Unity isn't the first to announce a standalone VR conference, with GDC organizers UBM Tech Game Network last month revealing that GDC 2016 will play host to the first ever Virtual Reality Developers Conference.

VRDC, which which will bring together experts from the video game, entertainment, and tech fields to discuss the art of making immersive VR and AR experiences, will take place over the first two days of GDC 2016.

Gamasutra and GDC are sibling organizations under parent UBM Tech
