Emergent will integrate Nvidia's PhysX technology into its Gamebryo game engine -- as used in games such as Warhammer Online -- through an extension of the two companies' partnership. Gamebryo's next release, expected in the fall, will ship with PhysX integrated into the platform.

Emergent says it's optimized Gamebryo for development on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC and Wii. It was used for Firaxis' Civilization Revolution and BottleRocket's Splatterhouse and is also being used by EA Mythic for its upcoming Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning as well as Larian Studios' Divinity 2: Ego Draconis.

PhysX contains a physics engine, API, and middleware designed to allow developers and animators to author and preview physics in real time. The tech is compatible with platforms including Wii, PS3, Xbox 360, and PC, and Nvidia says it can be accelerated by the CPU as well as CUDA general purpose parallel computing processors.

Emergent CEO Geoffrey Selzer says, "NVIDIA is as dedicated as Emergent to delivering the tools, runtimes and technologies needed to radically improve the state of development."

"Both companies are committed to platform-agnostic, flexible modular solutions that harness the power of multi-core, multi-threaded development. With NVIDIA’s deep support for these values, we will offer the industry the most powerful, flexible, and easiest development environment available to push the edge of video game technology and creativity."
