Nintendo's
Wii Sports Resort has sold over 600,000 units in Europe since its July 24 release, a Nintendo representative
told UK-based website GamesIndustry.biz.
The report comes soon after Nintendo of America
said it sold over 500,000 units of the Wii MotionPlus-enabled game in the US, where it launched on July 26. The follow-up to the Wii hardware pack-in
Wii Sports has been leading worldwide charts since its release.
According to tracking firm Media Create, the game has sold 828,000 units in the region. US, Europe, and Japan sales combined equal 1.93 million units.
The game features 12 "resort-themed" sports minigames like tennis, basketball, golf and bowling, played with the Mii avatars. The original
Wii Sports -- not part of a bundle in Japan -- has sold over 45 million units globally and continues to make sales charts. According to Nintendo, it sold 1 million units worldwide just during the company's most recent fiscal quarter alone.
Nintendo of America said that like many of its first-party titles,
Wii Sports Resort will have "long-lasting appeal."
