The Nordic Game Program has announced that Tarsier Studios AB's upcoming title The City of Metronome has been selected to receive 600,000 kroner ($119,000) in development funding through the program, which is designed to support innovative game concepts in the region.

The City of Metronome, in development for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and other platforms, tasks players with using recorded sounds to solve mysteries in a big city. It is one of eight concepts selected in 2007 to be awarded a share of 2.5 million kroner ($495,000)in development funding by the Nordic Game Program for "inventiveness and infectious enthusiasm."

Other award winners include Digital Out A/S, which earned 500,000 DKK ($99,000) for Asteroid Cowboys; Frecle I/S, which earned 300,000 DKK ($59,000) for Youropa; UOVO Aps, which earned 300,000 ($59,000) for Willinilli; Funkis Multimedia, which won 300,000 DKK ($59,000) for Fishing in Sweden, and Secret Exit Oy, which won 300,000 ($59,000) for Cinnamon Beats.

The six-year Nordic Game Program was launched in 2006 with the aim of improving access to Nordic computer games by providing funding assistance. The winners were announced at the D3 Copenhagen Expo games fair in ksnehallen.

As part of that announcement, Danish game company Guppyworks founder Steine Klie commented, The recurring characteristics of the successful applications are that they are designed from the heart and are games Id really like to play."
