THQ has announced its latest Wii exclusive title with Band Mashups, a rhythm game in development by Planet Moon (Giants, Armed & Dangerous), featuring 30 tracks each done in rock, Latin, country, hip-hop, and marching style, slated for an April 2008 release.
THQ describes the game as an "ultimate band battle" featuring "fast-paced combat with customizable bands in the fight for musical supremacy, fully utilizing the Wii Remote controller’s highly intuitive control scheme."
The title will allow players to battle each other with their own preferred musical style in both two player versus mode, and a single player mode, taking the role of "one of eleven bands trying to topple the nefarious big boss Mr. Hong and take control of the faraway city of New Cadenza."
As players make their way through each of the 30 "lassic and modern chart-topping hits," they will be able to control the style through "music switching," letting the winning player swap out their preferred style, changing the song to one of the aforementioned genres.
Said THQ global brand director Randy Shoemaker, "Band Mashups takes an innovative approach to the rhythm/action genre by blending music and combat in the ultimate battle of the bands. Using a rhythm based game-play mechanic, the game delivers 70 over-the-top musical weapons and utilizes the Wii Remote’s functionality to deliver a completely original musical combat experience. Fighting with a sniper violin or flamethrower guitar is something gamers should definitely look forward to.”
