Release This: Dragon Quest IX Headlines Worldwide Lineup

July 6, 2009 | By Danny Cowan

Gamasutra's regular round-up of worldwide video game releases, "Release This!", takes a look at every game title we know to be shipping to stores this week, in an exclusively compiled list.

This week brings Square Enix's Dragon Quest IX to the Nintendo DS in Japan, while gamers in North America get The Bigs 2 and Tales of Monkey Island.

The following list covers all of the game software we know to be available -- across all platforms and regions -- for the week ending July 11th, 2009.

2K Sports' baseball franchise sequel The Bigs 2 will debut across a majority of platforms in the United States this week, with a Nintendo DS port planned for release in September.

PC gamers can look forward to a port of Street Fighter IV and the online premiere of Telltale Games' Tales of Monkey Island.

Games Released in Europe:

- The Conduit
- Fritz Chess

Nintendo DS:

PC:

Frozenbyte's fantasy-themed platformer Trine will see a retail release exclusively in the UK this week -- the title will only be released as a digital download in other regions.

Europe will also receive High Voltage Software's first-person shooter The Conduit this week, along with Fritz Chess on the Nintendo DS and Wii.

Games Released in Japan:

Square Enix's long-awaited RPG sequel Dragon Quest IX: Hoshizora no Mamoribito will debut in Japan this week for the Nintendo DS. The Dragon Quest series has remained a favorite among gamers in Japan for decades, and this week's release is expected to remain a top seller for weeks to come.

Few other titles are willing to compete with Dragon Quest IX in its first week of release. 2K Sports' Major League Baseball 2K9 will attempt to grab a share of the market on multiple platforms, while Sony's GPS title Maplus: Portable Navi 3 headlines this week's PSP lineup.
