Saling The World: Peace Walker, Just Dance Head Global Charts

Gamasutra's weekly column, "Saling The World", covers the top five sellers for every available platform in the United States, Japan, and Europe, providing an important update of sales patterns worldwide.

This week's charts, with data taken from May 6th, 2010, find Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker maintaining its lead in Japan, as Just Dance again heads multiplatform sales results in the UK.

Data for "Saling The World" comes courtesy of the public sales information on Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, and Amazon.co.jp, with sales split out for each platform and territory, and pre-orders disregarded. This results in a true sense of what games are selling worldwide on the real-time updated service, as follows:

Nintendo Wii
North America: 1. New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Nintendo), 2. Just Dance (Ubisoft), 3. Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board (Nintendo), 4. Wii Sports Resort (Nintendo), 5. Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo).

Japan: 1. Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board (Nintendo), 2. New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Nintendo), 3. Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo), 4. Wii Sports Resort (Nintendo), 5. Wii Fit Plus (Nintendo).

UK: 1. Just Dance (Ubisoft), 2. Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board (Nintendo), 3. Wii Sports Resort (Nintendo), 4. Wii Fit Plus (Nintendo), 5. New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Nintendo).

New Super Mario Bros. Wii remains North America's biggest Wii software seller, as Ubisoft's Just Dance rises up to take second place. Wii Fit Plus returns to the top five this week following a restock at Amazon, as Mario Kart Wii trails behind Wii Sports Resort at fifth place.

Just Dance once again tops multiplatform software sales in the UK, meanwhile, as Wii Fit Plus edges out New Super Mario Bros. Wii in Japan.


Xbox 360
North America: 1. Guitar Hero 5 (Activision), 2. Assassin's Creed II (Ubisoft), 3. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Activision), 4. Super Street Fighter IV (Capcom), 5. Halo 3: ODST (Microsoft).

Japan: 1. Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction (Ubisoft), 2. Super Street Fighter IV Collector's Package (Capcom), 3. Super Street Fighter IV (Capcom), 4. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion -- Game of the Year Edition (Bethesda), 5. Steins;Gate (5pb).

UK: 1. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Activision), 2. 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa (EA Sports), 3. Assassin's Creed II (Ubisoft), 4. Halo 3: ODST (Microsoft), 5. Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction (Ubisoft).

A steep clearance discount at Amazon ensures Guitar Hero 5's place at the top of today's North American Xbox 360 sales chart. Assassin's Creed II takes second place after a drop in price, as Modern Warfare 2 overtakes Super Street Fighter IV.

Splinter Cell: Conviction remains Japan's top seller for the second week in a row, while Super Street Fighter IV remains a popular pick after its recent debut.


PlayStation 3
North America: 1. God of War III (SCEA), 2. Super Street Fighter IV (Capcom), 3. Assassin's Creed II (Ubisoft), 4. Tekken 6 (Namco Bandai), 5. Star Wars: The Clone Wars -- Republic Heroes (LucasArts).

Japan: 1. Super Street Fighter IV Collector's Package (Capcom), 2. Demon's Souls (SCEI), 3. BioHazard 5 Alternative Edition (Capcom), 4. God of War Collection (Capcom), 5. God of War Collection (SCEI).

UK: 1. 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa (EA Sports), 2. God of War III (SCEE), 3. Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City (Rockstar), 4. God of War Collection (SCEE), 5. Super Street Fighter IV (Capcom).

Super Street Fighter IV drops to second place in the U.S. PlayStation 3 charts after taking the top spot last week. God of War III claims first place, as Tekken 6 and Star Wars: The Clone Wars -- Republic Heroes return to the top five following Amazon-sponsored discounts in price.

Elsewhere, 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa leads UK PS3 sales for the second week running, as Super Street Fighter IV stays on top in Japan.


PC
North America: 1. The Sims 3 (EA Games), 2. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Activision), 3. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (EA Games), 4. Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Gold Edition (Microsoft), 5. Dragon Age: Origins (EA Games).

Japan: 1. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion -- Game of the Year Edition (2K Games), 2. SimCity 4 Deluxe (EA Games), 3. Monster Hunter Frontier Online Season 7.0 Premium Package (Capcom), 4. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (EA Games), 5. Sangoku Koi Senki: Otome no Hyouhou! (Daisy2).

UK: 1. The Sims 3 (EA Games), 2. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (EA Games), 3. Football Manager 2010 (Sega), 4. Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition (Bethesda), 5. Mass Effect 2 (EA Games).

The Sims 3 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 finish as this week's top domestic PC sellers. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 maintains strong sales in all regions, as Football Manager 2010 drops to third place in the UK after topping the chart last week.

North America: 1. Pokemon SoulSilver Version (Nintendo), 2. Club Penguin: Elite Penguin Force Collector's Edition (Disney), 3. Pokemon HeartGold Version (Nintendo), 4. New Super Mario Bros. (Nintendo), 5. Mario Kart DS (Nintendo).

Japan: 1. Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 (Square Enix), 2. Tomodachi Collection (Nintendo), 3. Hakuouki DS (Idea Factory), 4. New Super Mario Bros. (Nintendo), 5. Love Plus (Konami).

UK: 1. Pokemon SoulSilver Version (Nintendo), 2. Pokemon HeartGold Version (Nintendo), 3. Professor Layton and Pandora's Box (Nintendo), 4. Dora Saves the Mermaids (2K Games), 5. New Super Mario Bros. (Nintendo).

The Collector's Edition of Disney's Club Penguin: Elite Penguin Force creeps into the North American Nintendo DS charts after a recent "Deal of the Day" price drop at Amazon, landing between Pokemon SoulSilver and HeartGold in daily sales numbers.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 tops Japanese sales for the second consecutive week, as both recent Pokemon releases continue to head platform sales in the UK.

North America: 1. God of War: Chains of Olympus (SCEA), 2. Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters (SCEA), 3. Harvest Moon: Hero of Leaf Valley (Natsume), 4. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII (Square Enix), 5. 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa (EA Sports).

Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters returns to the PSP's top five in the United States this week, landing behind reigning chart champion God of War: Chains of Olympus at second place.

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker continues to top cross-platform sales in Japan, meanwhile, as Invizimals overtakes 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa in the UK.
