Unity Technologies today announced a strategic partnership aimed at integrating Allegorithmic's 3D effects and middleware authoring Substance tools into the Unity development environment.
The partnership will provide Unity 3 users free access to all of the texture design
and world-building tools of the Allegorithmic Substance Engine through an update to be made available later this year.
The Unity update will also include "a range of Unity-exclusive substances" and "special deals on production-ready pre-made libraries and workflow painkillers," according to the announcement.
"Getting into Unity's massive penetration means our technology is now well on the way to becoming a new game industry standard," said Allegorithmic CEO Dr Sebastien Deguy. "We are looking very much forward to seeing exactly how fantastic a tie between our products can be, now both our development teams are committed to making it not only happen, but be truly great."
Perhaps best known for its use in web-based 3D games, the Unity development environment earlier this year
added support for PS3, iPad and Android mobile devices on top of existing support for the Wii, Xbox 360 and iPhone.
The company claims its engine has been used by over 170,000 developers
since its launch in 2005.
