LucasArts Signs Studio-Wide Licensing Deal For Unreal Engine 3

April 26, 2011 | By Tom Curtis

LucasArts announced that it has signed a studio-wide licensing agreement with Epic Games to use Unreal Engine 3 a number of the company's future projects.

Under this multi-year deal, LucasArts will develop games using Epic's tools across a range of platforms, though the studio has yet to reveal specifically which titles will use Unreal technology.

For its recent Star Wars: The Force Unleashed titles, LucasArts used its internally-developed Ronin engine, and other titles such as Traveller's Tales' Lego Star Wars used their own proprietary tech.

Recently, LucasArts hired on ex-Crystal Dynamics creative director Tim Longo and Frederic Markus, formerly of Disney Interactive, to work on unannounced projects.

Near the end of 2010, the company saw additional internal changes as it let go of a number of employees and took on former Ubisoft Montreal creative director Clint Hocking.
