Saling The World: Atsumete! Kirby, J-League Soccer Climb Japanese Charts

Gamasutra's weekly column, "Saling The World", covers the top five sellers for every available platform in the United States, Japan, and Europe, providing an important update of sales patterns worldwide.

This week's charts, with data taken from August 4th, 2011, find Just Dance 2 and Call of Duty: Black Ops heading domestic multiplatform sales, while Minna no Rhythm Tengoku and Atsumete! Kirby lead in Japan.

Data for "Saling The World" comes courtesy of the public sales information on Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, and Amazon.co.jp, with sales split out for each platform and territory, and pre-orders disregarded. This results in a true sense of what games are selling worldwide on the real-time updated service, as follows:

Multiplatform
North America: 1. Just Dance 2 (Ubisoft, Wii), 2. Call of Duty Black Ops (Activision, X360), 3. Zumba Fitness (Majesco, Wii), 4. Mortal Kombat (Warner Bros, PS3), 5. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D (Nintendo, 3DS).

Japan: 1. Minna no Rhythm Tengoku (Nintendo, Wii), 2. Atsumete! Kirby (Nintendo, DS), 3. J-League Pro Soccer Club o Tsukurou! 7 Euro Plus (Sega, PSP), 4. Epic Mickey (Nintendo, Wii), 5. Zelda no Densetsu: Toki no Ocarina (Nintendo, 3DS).

UK: 1. Zumba Fitness (505 Games, Wii), 2. Just Dance 2 (Ubisoft, Wii), 3. The Sims 3 (EA Games, PC), 4. L.A. Noire (Rockstar, X360), 5. Call of Duty: Black Ops (Activision, X360).

Just Dance 2 reclaims top honors in the domestic multiplatform charts this week, followed by Activision's Call of Duty Black Ops and Zumba Fitness.

Zumba Fitness continues to lead the UK sales results, as Nintendo's Rhythm Heaven sequel Minna no Rhythm Tengoku spends its third week at the top of the Japanese charts.


Nintendo Wii
North America: 1. Just Dance 2 (Ubisoft), 2. Zumba Fitness (Majesco), 3. Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board (Nintendo), 4. New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Nintendo), 5. ExerBeat (Namco Bandai).

Japan: 1. Minna no Rhythm Tengoku (Nintendo), 2. Epic Mickey (Nintendo), 3. Wii Remote Plus Variety Pack (Nintendo), 4. Family Fishing Bundle (Namco Bandai), 5. Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board (Nintendo).

UK: 1. Zumba Fitness (505 Games), 2. Just Dance 2: Extra Songs (Ubisoft), 3. Just Dance 2 (Ubisoft), 4. Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board (Nintendo), 5. Lego Pirates of the Caribbean (Disney).

While Zumba Fitness and the Just Dance series continue to rule the Wii charts in North America and the UK, the newly localized Epic Mickey and Namco's Family Fishing make a big sales impression in Japan.


Xbox 360
North America: 1. Call of Duty: Black Ops (Activision), 2. Halo Reach (Microsoft), 3. Kinect Sports (Microsoft), 4. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Activision), 5. NCAA Football 12 (EA Sports).

Japan: 1. Tropico 3 (Russell), 2. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood (Ubisoft), 3. Steins;Gate: Hiyoku Renri no Darling (5pb), 4. Operation Flashpoint: Red River (Codemasters), 5. Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition (Capcom).

UK: 1. L.A. Noire (Rockstar), 2. Call of Duty: Black Ops (Activision), 3. FIFA 11 (EA Sports), 4. Halo Reach (Microsoft), 5. Portal 2 (Valve).

Call of Duty: Black Ops and Modern Warfare 2 see a new surge in popularity this week in North America, while budget-priced rereleases for Tropico 3 and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood top platform sales in Japan.


PlayStation 3
North America: 1. Mortal Kombat (Warner Bros), 2. Call of Duty: Black Ops (Activision), 3. Catherine (Atlus), 4. Bleach: Soul Resurreccion (NIS America), 5. NCAA Football 12 (EA Sports).

Japan: 1. Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu 2011 (Konami), 2. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood (Ubisoft), 3. Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition (Capcom), 4. No More Heroes: Red Zone Edition (Marvelous), 5. Gekijouban Macross F: Itsuwarino Utahime - Hybrid Pack (Namco Bandai).

UK: 1. L.A. Noire (Rockstar), 2. Red Dead Redemption (Rockstar), 3. FIFA 11 (EA Sports), 4. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood (Ubisoft), 5. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Activision).

Atlus' Catherine manages an impressive third-place finish in the domestic PlayStation 3 charts in its debut week, as Konami's baseball sim Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu 2011 retakes first place in the Japanese sales results.

North America: 1. Fallout 3 Collector's Edition (Bethesda), 2. Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty (Blizzard), 3. The Sims 3: Generations (EA Games), 4. Flight Simulator X: Gold Edition (Microsoft), 5. Civilization V (2K Games).

Japan: 1. Tera (E Frontier), 2. Ragnarok Online RJC2011 Vol 2 (E Frontier), 3. Ragnarok Online RJC2011 Vol 1 (E Frontier), 4. Monster Hunter Frontier Online 2011 (Capcom), 5. Rewrite (Key).

UK: 1. The Sims 3 (EA Games), 2. The Sims 3: Town Life Stuff (EA Games), 3. The Sims 3: Generations (EA Games), 4. The SIms 3: Late Night (EA Games), 5. Football Manager 2011 (Sega).

A restocked Fallout 3 Collector's Edition emerges as the biggest-selling PC title at Amazon this week, while The Sims 3 and its expansions dominate the UK's top five.


Nintendo 3DS
North America: 1. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D (Nintendo), 2. Rayman 3D (Ubisoft), 3. Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition (Capcom), 4. Pilotwings Resort (Nintendo), 5. Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars (LucasArts).

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D continues to lead the 3DS charts worldwide, while Nintendo's Super Pokemon Rumble and Capcom's Nazo Waku Yakata see big first-week sales in Japan.

Square Enix's Dragon Quest V makes a surprise appearance in the Nintendo DS charts stateside following a recent price drop, as Nintendo's recently released Atsumete! Kirby and Namco Bandai's All Kamen Rider: Rider Generation top platform sales in Japan.

North America: 1. Valkyria Chronicles II (Sega), 2. Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together (Square Enix), 3. Need for Speed: Most Wanted (EA Games), 4. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII (Square Enix), 5. Dissidia 012: Duodecim Final Fantasy (Square Enix).

An Amazon "Deal of the Day" price drop puts Valkyria Chronicles II at the top of the domestic PSP charts, while in Japan, Sega's J-League Pro Soccer Club o Tsukurou! 7 Euro Plus and Toriko: Gourmet Survival overtake former chart leaders Steins;Gate and Queen's Blade: Spiral Chaos.
