Klei sold more than a million copies of Don't Starve in 2013

Newsbrief: Klei Entertainment community manager Corey Rollins claims the studio is considering bringing its IGF award-nominated survival game Don't Starve -- which had more than one million players by the end of 2013 -- to other platforms, including iOS and the PlayStation Vita.

The news comes courtesy of a brief interview Rollins recently did with Edge, a good read that sheds some light on Klei's approach to design.

During the interview Rollins also points out that Don't Starve hit the one-million player mark before it was released on PlayStation 4, where PlayStation Plus members were able to play it for free. Gamasutra reached out to Klei founder Jamie Cheng via email and confirmed that yes, that means Don't Starve sold more than a million copies in 2013.

That's especially good news in light of the fact that Klei self-published Don't Starve, leaving the studio free to reap the rewards of its success and move forward without being beholden to a publisher.

"To be honest, we really like doing new things," Rollins told Edge. "We feel pretty strongly about not doing sequels unless you have something really new to bring to table. Its definitely a possibility, but well need to take some time to think about the best way to revisit [Dont Starve] if we do."
