Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines fan remake shut down by CCP

November 24, 2014 | By Mike Rose

A fan remake of Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines has been shut down by EVE Online studio CCP Games, the copyrights holder for the game.

Project Vaulderie is a group of devs who have been remaking the original release in the Unity engine, after original developer Troika Games closed down in 2005. It was a non-commercial project that was looking to get the game running in a more stable environment.

However, the group has now posted on its official blog, stating that CCP has fired them a Cease & Desist letter, and they are planning to comply.

The team had aimed to discuss the copyrights for the game with Activision, as it was led to believe Activision handled the appropriate properties. However, the letter from CCP states that, "While Activision retains certain rights to the game it created, CCP continues to own all other rights associated with Vampire: The Masquerade."

Now the group is looking to find another way to make the project happen -- but for now it's game over.

"We are avidly seeking a resolute course to continue working on a future game," says the team, "but we cannot at this time discuss this publicly and with that I urge you to please be patient and hopeful that we will find a way."
