Unity's new UI system is finally here

Unity's new UI system is finally here

November 26, 2014 | By Mike Rose

Newsbrief: Unity has released the next version of its video game engine, complete with the brand new Unity User Interface system that the company says is faster and more flexible than the current solution.

With this new UI system, the aim is for developers to be able to more quickly build what they need with as little coding as possible. In particular, the Unity 4.6 update features faster workflows, low memory allocations, and more easily manageable multiplatform deployment.

Notably, the source code for this new UI system is now also available under an MIT/X11 license.

Unity 4.6 doesn't just include the new UI features -- it also comes with x86 support for Android, a new Rect tool, and a more extensible event messaging system. You can find all the details here.
