Psyonix’s soccer-racing mash-up Rocket League has brought in nearly $50 million in revenue since it launched in July on PC and PS4.
The game also has over 8 million registered players, but according to studio founder and chief, Dave Hagewood, speaking to the Wall Street Journal, they never really expected the game to be such a success.
"The few who played Battle-Cars (Rocket League's pseudo-prequel) loved it, so we saw that as a problem of awareness," said Hagewood, explaining why the studio’s strategy for marketing Rocket League was to simply get it into as many hands as possible.
Although he couldn't reveal how many copies of Rocket League were downloaded through PlayStation Plus, Hagewood did suggest the number was in the millions.
