Microsoft unlocks framerates for UWP apps, tells devs 'we're listening'

Microsoft's Universal Windows Platform (UWP) -- a common dev platform that lets apps run across any Windows 10 device -- has come under frequent fire since being introduced in 2015.

One of the UWP's most vocal detractors has been Epic Games co-founder, Tim Sweeney, who's frequently lambasted the platform for "curtailing" developer freedom and neglecting VR support

Now, in a new DirectX blog post, Microsoft's Bryan Langley has moved to reassure UWP critics with a simple message: "we're listening - and acting."

"As a direct response to your feedback, we’re excited to announce the release today of new updates to Windows 10 that make gaming even better for game developers and gamers."

Those updates included unlocked framerates for UWP apps and games, along with support for AMD Freesync, and Nvidia G-Sync - which will help synchronize game rendering frames to reduce tearing. 

Looking ahead, Microsoft has also promised developments regarding the use of multiple GPUs in DirectX 12.
