Annapurna Pictures, best known for films like Her and Zero Dark Thirty, is expanding into game publishing with the creation of Annapurna Interactive.
The newly created publisher aims to promote personal, emotional, and innovative games that explore the artistry and diversity of the medium.
The company is kicking things off by announcing two games it'll be publishing shortly. Both Giant Sparrow’s What Remains of Edith Finch and Jason Roberts’ Gorgoa have been announced for release in Spring 2017.
Annapurna is also in the process of working with Funomena, Katamari Damacy creator Keita Takahashi, and Monument Valley lead designer Ken Wong on future releases.
The new publisher has picked up a mix of industry veterans to run the newly founded studio out of West Hollywood, California.
Variety lists these employees as Nathan Gary, Deborah Mars, Hector Sanchez, and Jeff Legaspi. Members of this team have worked on games like Journey, Flower, God of War, Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, and Fat Princess in the past.
