Super Mario Odyssey wins big at the Gamescom Awards 2017

August 25, 2017 | By Chris Kerr

Super Mario Odyssey was the big winner at this year's Gamescom Awards, with Nintendo's hat tossing hero taking home the coveted Best of Gamescom Award.

The Switch title also nabbed the prizes for Best Family Game, Best Action Game, and "Most Wanted" Consumer Award -- making it four gongs for the springy plumber.

Other notable winners include Destiny 2, which took home the Best Social/Online Game and Best Multiplayer Game statues.

Fallout 4 VR was named the Best Virtual Reality Game at the show, while PES 2018 struck an early blow in the annual battle of the soccer sims by scooping up the Best Sports Game award.
