Selling people on virtual reality is hard. Once people get their hands on a headset, they’re more inclined to believe in VR’s potential, but getting those headsets to people is often difficult. So when you’re making a trailer for your VR game, how do you convince people that it’s something special and unique?
While preparing to market the VR version of Fantastic Contraption, developer Colin Northway and video editor Kert Gartner had to answer this question. It turns out, they came up with a unique solution called mixed reality. At the 2017 Game Developers Conference, Northway and Gartner took the stage to explain how they created this workflow and what other developers (and video editors) can learn from it.
It’s a fascinating talk explaining a mind-bending concept, and you can watch the whole thing for free over on the GDC YouTube channel.
In addition to this presentation, the GDC Vault and its new YouTube channel offers numerous other free videos, audio recordings, and slides from many of the recent Game Developers Conference events, and the service offers even more members-only content for GDC Vault subscribers.
Those who purchased All Access passes to recent events like GDC, GDC Europe, and GDC Next already have full access to GDC Vault, and interested parties can apply for the individual subscription via a GDC Vault subscription page. Group subscriptions are also available: game-related schools and development studios who sign up for GDC Vault Studio Subscriptions can receive access for their entire office or company by contacting staff via the GDC Vault group subscription page. Finally, current subscribers with access issues can contact GDC Vault technical support.
