Hugely popular last-man-standing shooter PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds has broken the all-time concurrent player record on Steam.

The Early Access game was on course to break the record since passing the 1 million mark, and it eventually delivered the goods over the weekend when 1,342,857 players logged in to duke it out for Battlegrounds supremacy.

That means Battlegrounds beat the previous all-time concurrent player record of 1,295,114 -- held by Valve's evergreen MOBA, Dota 2 -- by just under 50,000 players.

Around three weeks the battle royale effort also became the most played game on Steam, again beating Dota 2 to the punch.

"[We've achieved the] highest peak player count on Steam," tweeted Battlegrounds creator PlayerUnknown over the weekend. "[I want to offer] a sincere thank you to all our players and the amazing Battlegrounds team I get to work with."

Battlegrounds launched around six months ago through Early Access and has sold over 10 million copies to date. The game will soon be making its console debut on the Xbox One with the help of Microsoft.
