GDC Online: UE3 Adds TriOviz To Integrated Partners Program

GDC Online: UE3 Adds TriOviz To Integrated Partners Program

October 6, 2010 | By Eric Caoili

Darkworks announced that its TriOviz for Games SDK, which is used for implementing stereoscopic 3D in games, has been accepted into Epic's Unreal Engine 3 Integrated Partners Program.

The TriOviz SDK, which will be available to all UE3 licensees via the Unreal Developer Network starting next month, uses a title's existing three-dimensional graphics information in-game to "enhance depth-of-field, geometry volume and position as well as characters within a scene".

Darkworks says this approach negates the need for rendering multiple images and allows TriOviz for Games to run at full-frame rate on consoles, which in turn enables developers to "maintain the resolution, performance and game play integrity" of their title while running in 3D stereoscopic mode.

The Parisian game developer and tools provider points out that developers can add TriOviz to their project in approximately one week. It claims that implementing the SDK is similar to incorporating a shader, and that most development teas will already have the tools and expertise to integrate it.

"Partnering with an industry leader like Epic Games is a huge boost for us and it happens at a time when game developers are looking to create robust 3D experiences to meet growing consumer demand," says Darkworks product mangaer Alexis Arragon. "With this relationship, Epic and UE3 licensees will have 3D stereoscopic capability at their fingertips."
