In a final ignominy for now-defunct developer and publisher Acclaim Entertainment, the company’s Long Island, New York corporate headquarters and its contents have been put up for public auction, to be held early next week.
Acclaim officially filed for bankruptcy on September 1st this year, when it listed assets of between $10 million and $50 million, and debt of more than $100 million. This final Chapter 7 filing came after an unsuccessful attempt to secure a $65 million loan in order to continue trading, resulting in the closure of the company's offices in Glen Cove, New York; Austin, Texas and Manchester, England.
The auction is being overseen by David R. Maltz & Co., Inc. and will take place on Tuesday, December 7th. Further information can be found at the official Maltz Auctions website
This auction is simply for the physical assets of the company's HQ, not any of the intellectual property or game rights, which are presumably being dealt with separately. However, as can be seen from the bankruptcy sale website, these physical assets include some rather nice looking furniture and some particularly comfortable looking chairs. Also included in the sales are approximately 43,000 video game cartridges and/or disks – although the vintage and quality of the merchandise has not been guaranteed.
