According to a report from the Indian CNN-IBN agency, Microsoft's Country Manager of Entertainment and Devices, Mohit Anand, has commented on an eventual Indian launch for the company's next-gen Xbox 360 console.
Anand suggested to the news source: "India is a key market and there is no doubt about it. Yes, the product will come, its just a question of time", although his comments seem to indicate that the launch will be a much longer-term project than many of the other territory launches still scheduled.
The Xbox 360 launched in North American on November 22nd, in Europe on December 2nd, and in Japan on December 10th. The other announced launches include South Korea, on February 24th, and Australia, Taiwan and Singapore on March 2nd.
However, Anand indicated to CNN-IBN that a number of factors would have to progress before the launch: "We are building channels through our pc games business. Also VAT needs to become pervasive. Duties on consoles are humongous and another key element is broadband."
He concluded: "Twelve to 18 months is what I give [before an Xbox 360 launch in India], it could be sooner as well."
