FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE November 8, 2019 VICTORIA, BC, Canada – On November 8, 2019, at 8 a.m. Pacific standard time, Desert Bus for Hope 2019. Now entering its 13th year, Desert Bus 2019 is the annual non-stop charity fundraiser for Child’s Play. On November 8, 2019, at 8 a.m., the live stream on Twitch.tv/desertbus began. With a starting amount of $22,875, the run will go on for 109 as of this writing, however as the donations roll in the time increases. The run is predicted to last until late Thursday night or early Friday morning. The team of almost 60 volunteers will keep this event running 24 hours a day until the donations stop. Desert Bus is often touted as the world’s most boring video game. The never-released game was part of a set of mini-games designed by magicians Penn and Teller. Players drive the titular bus through the desert from Tucson, AZ to Las Vegas, NV in real-time, a full eight-hour trip. Upon succeeding they are awarded a single point and given the option to make an identical return trip to Tucson. With no other traffic or obstacles of any kind, the game becomes an endurance test, as players must pay full attention to the game for eight hours straight to prevent the bus from crashing. To compensate, a dedicated team of volunteers keeps the audience entertained with a mix of planned and unplanned activities—from singing, to dancing, to human pyramids—anything we can do to keep the 'driver' focused, keep our audience interested, and keep the donations coming in.
