“Stay Awhile and Listen shows that there was a potent mixture of talent, opportunity, and personality that drove the meteoric rise of Blizzard Entertainment from its earliest days.” -Julian Gollop, creator of X-COM

December 11, 2019 - Stay Awhile and Listen: Book II – Heaven, Hell, and Secret Cow Levels, the next installment in author David L. Craddock’s history of Blizzard North and Blizzard Entertainment, is now available for purchase on Amazon Kindle devices and apps. The book was crowdfunded on Kickstarter in June 2018.

Based on interviews with over 80 developers, Stay Awhile and Listen: Book II recounts the making of Blizzard Entertainment's StarCraft and Blizzard North's Diablo II. Both games became bestsellers upon release but lengthy development cycles took a toll on their development teams.

Written in narrative-style prose, the Stay Awhile and Listen series is based on hundreds of hours of interviews with over 70 developers. Stay Awhile and Listen: Book II continues Craddock’s exploration of the culture, personalities, and games of Blizzard Entertainment and Blizzard North, including accounts of the lengthy crunch periods during development of StarCraft and Diablo II, secret projects at both Blizzard studios, and the friendly but fierce competition that grew more strained as each company struggled to forge a collective identity.

A bestseller at release in 2013, Stay Awhile and Listen: Book I garnered praise from critics and veteran game designers. BioWare co-founder Dr. Ray Muzyka described Stay Awhile and Listen as a “fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the storied history and development of Diablo and the early days of Blizzard Entertainment. A must-read for any fans of Blizzard's epic gaming franchises.”

Ultima creator Richard Garriott praised Stay Awhile and Listen as “a rare glimpse into the mystery of how such a company is built, and tells the story in a playful style worthy of the playful products Blizzard is known for."

Stay Awhile and Listen: Book II will be available in paperback and audiobook editions in 2020.
