Last week we've announced the release of LUNA The Shadow Dust on Feb. 13, 2020 (see here). This week we have the next big announcement: The Longing!

Deep underground, a tired King must sleep to restore his strength. He asks his servant, a faithful Shade, to wake him when 400 days have passed. Then he closes his eyes, leaving the Shade utterly alone in a vast, dark cave. In The Longing, you are that Shade. And on March 5, your 400-day vigil will begin. Can we interest you in a review copy?

Review Copies

Steam keys are available now. Because of The Longing’s unique real-time structure, we are offering review copies way ahead of its March 5 release. We'll also help you to get an impression of the game in less than 400 days. Please click here to request a review key for review or streaming purposes.

Requests to interview team members are welcome, too. This can be done via Skype or email: Click here to request an interview

A game about loneliness and solitude based on the Kyffhäuser legend

Created as a passion project by German indie developer Anselm Pyta of Studio Seufz, The Longing is an unusual adventure / sim / idle game hybrid nominated for the Nuovo Award in this year’s Independent Game Festival (IGF). It will release on Steam and other platforms for Windows, Mac, and Linux in English, German, French, Spanish, Italian and Russian.

The Longing’s 400 days count down in real time from the moment you start—even when you stop playing and exit the game. Your only required task is to awaken the King once the 400 days have passed. So, you could just wait to see how it ends… Or, you can explore the vast cave and eventually decide: will you stick with the King and build a comfortable life for yourself underground? Or will you make a break for it and escape to the world above? The Longing has several endings, and not all of them take 400 days to uncover.

  • Slow exploration of a vast, hand-drawn cave.
  • Atmospheric Dungeon Synth soundtrack.
  • Various endings.
  • Lots of well hidden secrets.
  • Time-based puzzles.
  • A lonely but cute protagonist.

The Longing will sell for $14.99 / £12.99 / EUR 14.99. Preorders are available directly from Application Systems to save 25%:
