Video Feature: Best Game Winner
2005 Game Developer Choice Awards

Introduction

[As the first in a series of new video-based features, Gamasutra is pleased to present selected footage from last year's Game Developers Choice Awards, as part of the preparation for this year's Choice Awards.]

Transcending consumer fads, the Game Developers Choice Awards feature games and developers that are truly worthy of recognition. The recipients are chosen by those who know games best --their creators.

The Game Developers Choice Awards are hosted at the Game Developers Conference and presented by the International Game Developers Association.

The 6th Annual Game Developer Choice Awards will be held on Wednesday, March 22nd during the Game Developer Conference in San Jose, California.

"The Game Developer Choice Awards are a celebration of all the passion and hard work that goes into creating ground-breaking games," says Jason Della Rocca, executive director, IGDA. "Developers are the talent that drives this industry and they deserve the recognition for having worked on these great games." Professional game developers around the world nominated and voted for the awards ensuring that the recipients reflect the community's opinions.

This extract from the 2005 Game Developers Choice Awards in San Francisco features the announcement of each of the nominees for the Best Game award, plus industry veteran Mark Cerny (Marble Madness) presenting the key award to Valve's Gabe Newell and colleagues for Half-Life 2.
