| Bio:
|
|
I have been involved
with the 3D game industry for about six years now, my first
job being with Cyan, Inc. I was the second artist hired on
for Riven and spent a good two years in overtime making
textured objects, creating lit environments, and dabbling
a little with designs. After Riven, I spent a short
time as an art director for the Revenant (Eidos/Cinematix
studios) before starting my own studio, where I did the bulk
of my work for that project as a freelance artist. I have
been in the freelance business for 3 years now and am currently
making the transition from a freelance artist to an independent
art studio. My goal is to provide 100% of the artwork for
a game by combining forces with a studio that specializes
in programming.

| Inspiration:
|
| For
my professional work, I get inspiration from the concept designs
that I work from and the reference material I dig up for the
job. As for my personal artwork, I draw a lot of inspiration
from my dreams. Nature is my favorite inspiration for design
ideas and I am constantly using it for reference as well. Reading
really stimulates my mind towards a creative mood and virtually
anything that expands my mind, inspires me to be creative.

| Favorite
Game Art: |
| I
really like the artwork that Gil Bruvel created for OLAD,
I know he worked really hard on that game and was able to keep
the artwork very consistent. I think that is an important part
of a game's graphics, the artwork should all blend together
as if it was all done by the same person. I like what Lorne
and his gang are doing with Abe at Oddworld. I also like Eni
Oken's work, she has a great style. So, the Zork games,
etc. |
| Why
I Got into the Industry: |
| There
are many reasons why I wanted to pursue this career. Overall,
the computerized medium seemed to offer the most potential for
me to channel my creative energy in a way that is very satisfying
for me as an artist. With it, I can easily create visual representations
of my ideas and with almost no limits. In a way, it's almost
the perfect medium to design the future with, which gives it
an incredible potential and makes it irresistible to anyone
with vision. |
| Tools
I Can't Live Without: |
| I
only use Photoshop (straight, no plug-ins) and Softimage, so
these are the two I can't live without. Also, my digital camera
for capturing textures. |
| Music
I Listen to While Working: |
| I
like listening to CD's that have an overall consistency from
song to song throughout the album, so I can keep focus on my
work and still listen to whatever I am in the mood for. I always
seem to have an obscure Jon Anderson CD in the changer and I
really like the work that Robbie Robertson has been doing. |
