Wii Opera Browser Free Until June 2007

Following confirmation by Nintendo earlier this month that its upcoming Wii console will feature an internet channel, giving full web browsing access via the Opera web browser for an additional cost, Opera Software today announced more details on the service, including confirmation that the browser will be free of charge for all Wii users until June 2007.
After June 2007, the browser will be available for download from the "Wii Shop Channel" using Wii points, the console's virtual credits users can buy that allow them to add new games or the Opera browser to their Wii consoles. The number of Wii points required to purchase Opera has not yet been disclosed.
The Wii version of the Opera web browser will feature support for Flash and AJAX-based content such as Google maps. In addition, Opera for Wii will include the same complete standards support as the Opera 9 Desktop browser, and includes the added functionality of "Zoom" and "Bookmarks".
Nintendo recently announced that the Wii platform will launch in North and South America on November 19 for a retail price of $250. The console will also ship in Japan on December 19 for ¥25,000 ($213), inclusive of tax, and in Europe and the UK on December 8, 2006 for €249 / £179. The Wii will ship in Australia on December 7, and will carry a price of AU$399.95.
