GDC organizers have announced that the Video Games Live concert series is returning with a new show for GDC 2007's closing ceremonies, including a rare performance from Mario and Zelda composer Koji Kondo.

The concert is scheduled to take place at the Nob Hill Masonic Auditorium on March 9 at 8 p.m. Video Games Live itself is an immersive concert event featuring music from the biggest video games of all time. It features exclusive video footage and music arrangements, synchronized lighting, solo performers, electronic percussionists, live action and unique interactive segments.

Other performances scheduled for the event include a debut of a new classic video game arrangement by Video Game Pianist Martin Leung, as well as a special acoustic performance by the original LucasArts composers performing a medley of classics including Monkey Island, Outlaws and Grim Fandango.

In addition, the event will see an on-stage performance by noted voice-over artist Dee Baker (Halo 2, Kingdom Hearts), as well as a live synchronized Contra “Jungle Theme” rock-n-roll presentation by Chris Kline, also known as “vertexguy”.

“There is clearly no game music more recognizable around the world than the themes that Mr. Kondo has created over the years.” said Video Games Live executive producer and co-creator Tommy Tallarico. “What an incredible honor to have such a true legend in the gaming world join us on stage to celebrate video game music and the wonderful industry surrounding it.”

Nintendo's Kondo will also offer a persentation during GDC titled “Painting an Interactive Musical Landscape”, during which the seminal Nintendo composer will illustrate how his method of composing interactive music is unique by examining his contributions to the Super Mario and Legend of Zelda franchises.

Other events announced for the GDC 2007 Video Games Live concert include Guitar Hero II and Space Invaders competitions, a costume contest where audience members will come dressed as their favorite video game characters, and a post-show Meet and Greet, where fans can interact with more than 20 industry luminaries.

More information on upcoming tour dates and ticket pricing for the Video Games Live concert can be found at the concert's website. For more information concerning GDC 2007, including speaker and registration information, visit the official website.
