GDC Management Issues Statement On GDC Russia

The management of Game Developers Conference event series at the CMP Game Group has issued a statement on the upcoming GDC Russia, due to take place later this month in St. Petersburg, revealing that it is an unauthorized event and that the company is "exploring our legal options" regarding the situation.

According to a statement released by CMP (also the parent company of Gamasutra.com), and attributed to Jamil Moledina, the Executive Director of the Game Developers Conference series:

"At the Game Developers Conference and our regional GDC events, we greatly appreciate the opportunity to provide learning, inspiration, and networking to you to support your efforts to make better games. In turn, we recognize that you associate a high level of editorial integrity and industry-wide support with the Game Developers Conference brand.

With that in mind, we therefore are compelled to notify you that the event currently representing itself as GDC Russia is in fact not associated with CMP's Game Group, and is not authorized to use the Game Developers Conference brand.

While we did partner with a local consumer games publication to present a GDC Russia event last year, we did not renew that partnership, and we are currently exploring our legal options regarding this situation.

Instead, we look forward to delivering on your expectations at LyonGDC, ChinaGDC, AustinGDC, GDC Prime, and of course the world’s Game Developers Conference."
