Activision Announces Score International Baja 1000 For Fall

Santa Monica-based publisher Activision has announced Score International Baja 1000, a new off-road racing game based on Score International's desert racing events, for the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, and PC. Due this fall, the game is being developed by Left Field Productions (Excitebike 64, Nitrobike).

Score International Baja 1000 will feature over 90 vehicles across multiple classes, including trophy trucks, class I, motorcycles, and ATVs. Players will be able to race on the Baja 1000, an off-road race across Mexico's Baja California Peninsula, where they'll be challenged to cross the finish line first while keeping their machine intact.

Founded in 1973, Score International is the sanctioning body for desert racing, producing the annual six-race Score Desert Series. Said Score International president and CEO Sal Fisher: “In consulting Activision for a video game version, we meticulously explained what’s needed to capture the intensity of the Baja. They’ve nailed not only the look but also the elements of true desert racing.”

Activision Publishing's Dave Oxford added: “In creating Score International Baja 1000, our goal was to create something true to the sport that made you feel the speed and heart-pounding conditions. Players will see potential shortcuts on the tracks, but wonder if their vehicle can handle it. That’s a conundrum every driver on the Baja 1000 faces.”
