Universal, EA To Produce  Army Of Two  Movie

Universal Pictures and Electronic Arts closed a deal to create a movie based on EA Montreal's third-person shooter Army of Two.

Scott Stuber, who recently produced Role Models and Welcome Home, Roscoe Jenkins, will produce the film with EA. Screenwriter Scott Burns, who co-wrote The Bourne Ultimatum, will adapt the game for film. Production is expected to begin in 2009.

Army of Two follows two private military contractors, Rios and Salem, as they work cooperatively to complete missions that task them with attacking army bases, assassinating targets, and even sinking an aircraft carrier.

Since its release in March 2008 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Army of Two has grossed over $100 million in sales, although its critical reception was mixed at best. The newly-announced movie adaptation marks EA's second film project based on one of its video game IP. The company is also developing The Sims with 20th Century Fox and producer John Davis (The Express).

"Army of Two is a great project that has already attracted top name talent, and we're glad to be working with Electronic Arts on making this hit game into a film franchise," says Universal Pictures president Donna Langley.

This is one of the few games that could translate really well into a movie. I personally liked the Army Of Two story and its gameplay. More 'casual' then most hardcore 3rd person shooters Army Of Two's story will definatly make for some good movie action. That of course, is if youre into these types of movies.

i was a big fan of the game especially the co=operative play. i really like the idea of them doing a film of it, but it will be tough finding 2 actors who can gel together as much as the characters do in the game and the graphic novel, it will be touch and go with this film, if they get the right actors for the job who can get the relationship between the characters right then this will be a great film for action movie fans, but if it doesn't look real then it can easily come crumbling down.
