Nintendo acquired a new 40,000 square meter property in Kyoto, Japan –- which it plans to turn into a new research & development headquarters for software and hardware.
Nintendo acquired the new site, which is near its existing headquarters, for ¥12.8 billion ($141.9m). The move appears to be aimed at consolidating the R&D departments at two different facilities to improve team communication, according to a Nikkei Net report translated by consumer site GameSpot
However, no timeline has been given for the move, and it's unclear how the new facility's total capacity will compare to current arrangements.
When asked about plans for new hardware, Nintendo replied that it's constantly working on new R&D projects, no matter the current age or status of existing tech.
