Emergent Announces Restructuring, Layoffs

Engine tech company Emergent says it'll be restructuring its businesses "to more deeply align with the constantly evolving needs of its customer base," in the company's words.

Emergent, developer of the Gamebryo LightSpeed platform for game development, also cites "increasing financial pressure on the industry and the rapidly evolving content space" as a challenge it's been addressing by seeking new relationships with the development community and shifting some of its business external.

"As part of the restructuring effort, Emergent will shift resources from its core development team, to Emergent’s worldwide developer and publisher programs."

Although the company's announcement didn't specify, Emergent later clarified to UK trade site Develop that this will indeed mean an unspecified number of job cuts at the company.

Emergent says it will continue to develop LightSpeed based on feedback from its partners and customers, and to extend its technology.
