Ageia Technologies, the developer behind the upcoming PhysX SDK and processor, has announced that it has acquired Meqon Research AB, a Swedish physics software company. Meqon's Game Dynamics SDK, which will be used in TimeShift and Duke Nukem Forever, will be incorporated into the PhysX software.

Meqon's staff will also be integrated into the development team working on the PhysX system, though it's not clear whether Ageia will maintain the Meqon's current Swedish headquarters or move Meqon's engineers to its own California offices. Ageia will continue to support the Meqon Game Dynamics SDK for current customers of the system.

"Meqon is a perfect match for the philosophy and technology of AGEIA, and we will hit the ground running to integrate Meqon technology into the AGEIA PhysX SDK," said Manju Hegde, Ageia CEO and founder. "Following our acquisition of NovodeX last year, the acquisition of Meqon unites the world's most advanced physics technology under one roof, and is a key milestone in our relentless pursuit of physics excellence."

Ageia has also partnered with BFG Technologies for distribution of its physics processor unit, a hardware peripheral for PCs that Ageia hopes will do for game physics what 3D processor cards have done for game graphics. The first cards with the PhysX processor will ship toward the end of the year.
